Apps of the Week
Each Friday in The Scene in the Irish Daily Star, I round up some of the best new smartphone and tablet PC apps doing the rounds. Here are this week's apps...
Angry Birds Space HD, iPad — €2.39
Out yesterday, this spin-off has 60 levels on planets and in zero gravity, as gameplay ranges from slow-motion puzzles to lightspeed destruction.

Best on the incredible HD version for the new iPad (on sale in Ireland today), there’s also a standard iOS version costing €0.79, a free version for Android and a superb Mac version at €3.99.

Record Store Day Guide
, iOS/Android — Free

A handheld extension of the Record Store Day website, it uses GPS to find your nearest RSD-registered stores.

There aren’t many record stores left in Ireland, so it is good to support the ones that do remain on International Record Store Day on April 21. The app updates you on RSD news and limited edition releases out next month.

Dr Seuss Beginner Book Collection No2
, iOS — €9.99

The second Oceanhouse Media compilation of Dr Seuss book-apps includes five tales: Green Eggs And Ham, Dr Seuss’s ABC, The Cat In The Hat Comes Back, There’s A Wocket In My Pocket and Hop On Pop. Features to bring the stories to life include narration, artwork for each scene, sound effects and auto-play.

Sheet Music Direct for iPad
— Free

This cloud-based app gives budding composers and musicians access to a library of more than 100,000 songs. The app is free, but you have to pay for the songs that are stored.

Past purchases are synced to your account, and music can be transposed and played back. Other useful features include a metronome and mixer.
