eSports joins 2022 Asian Games

Thanks to recent collaborative efforts from the Olympic Council of Asia and Alisports of China, competitive Electronic Sports have been added to the program for the 2018 and 2022 Asian Games.

As noted in an article from IGN, the 2018 games at Jakarta and Palembang, Indonesia will feature eSports as a demonstration sport while the 2022 games at Hangzhou, China will feature eSports as an official medal event to reflect ‘the rapid development and popularity of this new form of sports participation among the youth’.

The inclusion of eSports at the 2022 Asian Games is a positive indication that competitive Electronic Sports could one day fully join the Olympic Games.
