Heavy Rain Chronicles Episode 1: The Taxidermist

Familiar to anyone who watched the games’ rolling demo from Leipzig 2008, this prequel to the main story sees gung-ho journalist Madison Paige throw herself into harm’s way once again as she investigates the home of dead animal stuffer and Origami Killer suspect Leland White.

Cue carefree B&E, some distinctly macabre exploring and a rousing, potentially action-packed finale with five possible endings (and a closing dialogue box which gleefully lets you know which ones you missed). The self-contained story is pretty thin and there are some glaring issues in the presentation (Madison’s voice sounds completely different) but the atmosphere and creepy tension are worth the low price of admission. Let’s hope for something a little more ambitious as the Chronicles continue.
