The Wii U Miiverse will soon be readily accessible on PCs and smartphones according to Nintendo. Speaking at GDC, Miiverse producer Kiyoshi Mizuki said that access to the Wii U social network will open up in May. This initial launch will provide basic Miiverse functionality, like posting comments, drawing pictures, and viewing and engaging with communities, while more features will be added down the line.
Mizuki also spoke about a 3DS version, which is in the works but doesn’t have a specified release date. However, unlike the Wii U where all games have Miiverse support, there are existing games and apps on the 3DS that are not compatible with the social universe.
Other features are in development for the Wii U based network including the ability to reply and follow other users from within games rather than having to launch the Miiverse app, and the ability to link to and open specific parts of a game in a post.
