Oh, no he didn't!
Following on from my previous article, on how Miyamoto's favourite Mario was Super Mario World but my personal favourite was Super Mario 3, take a wild guess at what beloved Mario title the video gaming legend had admitted to been 'embarrassed' by?
I'll give you a clue: It's Super Mario 3!!!
Having gone on record admitting he feels embarrassed when returning to the original Super Mario Bros. itself, Miyamoto, in what can only be assumed to be a fit of insanity, has stated that he feels similarly ashamed about the universally adored Super Mario Bros. 3.
'I look back and play some of these games and there are a lot of places where, to be honest, I'm a little embarrassed,' he told Techland. 'I look at Super Mario 3, and was like, 'This was it?! This is what we thought was good enough?''
Of all the games to be embarrassed by, and the man made Nintendogs!
Some of you may recall Mario 3 for its flight enabling racoon suit, its inventory bar, the seven Koopa Kids, lush visuals and some hardware chucking maniacs called the Hammer Bros.
You may also recall Mario 3 for its awesomeness.
Is it possible Miyamoto is a practical joker? If so it's in pretty poor taste. Go easy.
Although in Miyamoto's defence, he wisely admitted he wouldn't change a thing about it. And neither would the rest of us sir, primarily because it was excellent.
'I do have new understandings of that work,' he continued. 'The balance in that game is what it needed to be at that time. It really was. And so, even seeing all the limitations, I'm very happy with what we created and I wouldn't change it.'
Maybe there really no harsher critic then oneself...
