..Why has Arkham City come over a bit ‘Saw’ all of a sudden?
In stark contrast to the neon bustle of Gotham’s open world, this latest trailer from Rocksteady changes the pace dramatically. Horrifically.
We all recall, with a keen fondness, hunting those little green question marks throughout Arkham Asylum back in 2009. We pitted our wits against the Riddler and his condescending prattle, and sent his emerald ass to the big house!
Two years on and his temperament certainly hasn’t improved. He’s snatched hostages, set up implausibly elaborate spinning blades and thrown down the gauntlet for an IQ-off with the world’s greatest detective. (That’s Batman, by the way.)
Straight up; I’m sceptical how precisely this tonal change will impact upon the visceral realism of the wider narrative. But if Rocksteady are hammering one thing home about their anticipated sequel during this summer run up to its release, it’s content. There should be plenty to keep you busy in Arkham City.
Batman Arkham City is set for release on October 21st for the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.
