Chris O'Dowd's brotherly advice

When Chris O’Dowd’s older brother John asked what he should do to get into showbiz, the advice from the star was simple: “Don’t be a prick and just be nice to people.”

John, 10 years older than his brother, packed in his job and has just written his first comedy-radio series with a line that’s not so nice about one of Ireland’s great poets.

In the series WB Yeats is addressed as “the wank at the bank” — the local nickname of an effeminate-style statue of him at the Ulster Bank in Sligo.

The series, Punch and Kickham, written by John and his friend Diarmuid O’Brien, will be aired on Ocean FM’s The Lazy Afternoon next week.
