Unhappy Katie Holmes
had been planning her escape from Tom in secret for months, it was revealed yesterday.
As part of her plan, she rented out her own flat in New York while her husband was away filming sci-fi flick Oblivion in Iceland.
She believes she will gain more favourable divorce terms if she is classed as a New York resident rather than if she had court proceedings dealt with in Los Angeles.
Katie also kept her distance from Tom when he returned for a few days in June. He stayed away from the home they shared and instead spent his nights in Manhattan’s posh Greenwich Hotel. The pair were both photographed while he was back in town, but never together.
Katie has asked for full custody of their six-year-old daughter Suri — with friends blaming the move on Tom’s unshakable belief in Scientology. However lawyers claim it would be “unconstitutional” for divorce court judges to take the A-lister’s religion into account. One Hollywood insider said the attention around one of the decade’s biggest divorce battles may be damaging for the Mission: Impossible star.
Hollywood public relations expert Michael Levine said: “This will have a serious impact on his deeply controlled, obsessively veneered image.”
