Boyzone star Ronan Keating
revealed he’s being held back in his movie star ambitions because he’s being pigeon-holed as a singer.
believes he’s ready to make a move into movies if he gets the opportunity to prove he can act.
He explained: "When a singer tries to become an actor it's very, very difficult. It's harder for someone, like a singer, to prove they can be an actor because people immediately want to say, 'Oh, he's no good’."
He insisted that he’s ready to prove he can act after years of doing auditions. "I've gone to a lot of auditions over the years and I've just never been ready and I have never been good enough," he said. "But I feel over the last two years, I've grown into my skin and feel comfortable to prove to people that I can act."
He pointed to other singers who have managed to make the breakthrough. "Someone like Harry Connick Jr
has totally established himself as an actor, probably more than a singer. Jon Bon Jovi
has made some films along the way and he's done well."
revealed he desperately wanted to land a role as an elf in director Peter Jackson's upcoming movie, The Hobbit
. "I did a reading for it and I would have loved the opportunity,’’ he said. “It would have been amazing. I read for the role of an elf warrior like Orlando Bloom's character in The Lord of the Rings."
He landed his first acting gig in the Australian musical, Goddess
, due to be released this year. “I was lucky enough to make Goddess,’’ he revealed. “It's a beautiful film and I worked very hard on it and I believe it will show people that I am capable of doing it. Hopefully someone else will believe in me and I'll get the chance.”
He added: "I wish the timing had been different and Goddess had come out before The Hobbit opportunity – maybe they would have given me the chance as it would have been an amazing film and I would have been honoured to be involved."
