After a well-deserved lie-in yesterday Kian Egan
told fans: “Amazing stuff last night. Thank you all so much for the most amazing years of my life.”
Kian was tweeting after his band Westlife finally pulled the curtain down on their 14-year career — and it was the emotional tear-fest they promised.
Over 80,000 fans packed into Dublin’s Croke Park on Saturday night for one of the most memorable concerts the stadium has witnessed.
Heartbroken fans of all ages were in floods of tears as chart-toppers Kian Egan, Nicky Byrne, Shane Filan and Mark Feehily paid heartfelt tributes at their last-ever gig. The Sligo/Dublin foursome raised the roof with hits, including If I Let You Go
and When You’re Looking Like That before welling up during their emotionally-charged speeches.
Kian was the first one up and thanked friends, family and manager Louis Walsh before paying tribute to the person that was with them at the start of their pop music journey. “To Brian!” he proclaimed, which prompted deafening screams from Westlife devotees.
Shane paid tribute to his wife and the mother of his three children Gillian. Nicky spoke of his love for wife Georgina while Sligoman Mark paid tribute to his “magical” hometown.Stars light up bash
Westlife celebrated with family and friends until five in the morning at a 500-strong exclusive after-party at the 02. Kian, Mark, Shane and Nicky performed 78 times and sang to 540,000 fans at the popular venue throughout their 14-year career. “It’s our spiritual home,” an ecstatic Nicky Byrne said last night.
A host of Irish celebs showed up for the bash, with Ireland keeper Shay Given and MTV presenter Laura Whitmore
joining The Wanted and Jedward on the dance floor. Teen soul sensation Dionne Bromfield also attended the party, which saw Shane’s stunning wife Gillian
