The Amazing Spider-Man breaks Transformers' record
An amazing launch day for Spider-Man's origin story.
The Amazing Spider-Man has hit the ground running with a record breaking $35 million grossed on opening day. This figure surpasses Transformers’ opening day box office takes for a July 3rd release, and also sets a record for the highest Tuesday box office release. $7.5 million of this came from midnight screenings, while $4 million came from IMAX ticket sales.

Sony had previously expected the film to earn between $110 and $120 million, but if it continues at this rate, the film could surpass the $150 million mark. Again, this would ensure that The Amazing Spider-Man outperforms Transformers, which grossed $155.4 million in its first six days. A representative of Sony was naturally excited by the initial showing. The rep said, “We are off to an outstanding start here in North America with big fireworks still to come!”

There is always the chance that interest in The Amazing Spider-Man will fade away, but it is off to a strong start. With the weekend approaching, it will be interesting to see if people flock to the film or would they prefer to rewatch Sam Raimi's efforts. Can Andrew Garfield outdo Tobey Maguire and claim the title of best Spider-Man? If you’re unsure if you should see Garfield’s efforts this weekend, Click reviewed The Amazing Spider-Man, which may help you in your decision.
