The fathers we would like to have in our lives.
Father’s Day is approaching and that means it’s as good a time as any to take a look at some of our favourite Dads from films. Who would make your list and why? We hope all the fathers out there enjoy their weekend!

Marlin – Albert Brooks (Finding Nemo)
“But he’s a fish…and animated?!” you say. Well, yes he is, but there is no doubting that he is a fine father figure. He raises Nemo on his own teaching him and guiding him along the way. After the disaster that occurred at the beginning of the movie, he is naturally a little overprotective, but he puts his fears aside when it is really needed. When Nemo ends up getting himself in trouble, Marlin stops at nothing to bring his son home safely. He takes on everything that the ocean has to offer from dangerous jellyfish to fish that thrive in the deepest, darkest depths.

Mac MacGuff – J.K. Simmons (Juno)
J.K. Simmons’ involvement may have swayed us a little here, but that can’t take away from the fact that Mac MacGuff is a loving and caring father. After Juno tells her parents that she is pregnant, he takes it on the chin and supports Juno every step of the way. When she needs advice, he’s there for her and reassures her with some memorable lines including, “the best thing that you can do is find a person who loves you for exactly what you are.”

Bryan Mills – Liam Neeson (Taken)
Kim is the pride and joy of her father Bryan Mills and after leaving the CIA he even moves so that he can be closer to her. Things get ugly when Kim travels to Paris with her friend and they get kidnapped by a gang of human traffickers. Once armed with the tiniest piece of information, Mills hunts down those responsible in search of his daughter. And of course, Mills is responsible for the immortal line, “I will look for you…I will find you…and I will kill you”. It helps when he has been equipped with a useful skill set thanks to his career.

Dill – Stanley Tucci (Easy A)
He’s laid back and relaxed, and manages to steal some scenes with impeccably delivered lines. Yes, Dill is a father that many would love to have. Regardless of what seems to be happening around him, he stays cool, calm and collected. While Dill is perfectly willing to crack jokes and take the tension off certain situations, he is there for his children if they need someone to listen to or any advice.

Jim’s Dad – Eugene Levy (American Pie)
No list of top Dads would be complete without mentioning Jim’s Dad from American Pie. We’re not quite sure that we could handle a character like him watching over us, considering how many times we cringe each time he tries to give Jim advice, but he certainly looks out for Jim. It is amazing how he can stay so composed regardless of what Jim gets involved in. While other Dads may fear “that talk”, Jim’s Dad seems to embrace moments like that with open arms. He’s that father that will embarrass you, but he always has your best interests at heart.
