Fest way forward
Guitar king Newton Faulkner
has revealed he’s made new album Write It On Your Skin
— out today — to be played live at festivals.
The singer-songwriter says the way music is consumed has changed since his debut, Hand Built By Robots
, hit No1 in 2007.
“Instead of writing songs to be recorded, I’ve moved the focus on to live music a lot more,” said Newton.
“That is this album’s natural home, and the tracks are written to work at festivals,” added the acclaimed music-maker.
Newton (27), from Surrey in England, hailed the internet as a real boost to music. He said: “YouTube has changed everything. All the doors are being thrown wide open, which I think is a really good thing, but making sure people can still make a living is really important.
“The stuff I love has been done by people who have dedicated their entire lives to getting better and better at it and reaching a particular point.” But he stressed that these talented musicians should be able to bring in enough cash to do it as a full-time career. The former Brit Award nominee plays the Virgin Media V Festival
in Chelmsford, Essex, next month — and if you’re into guitar-playing, prepare to be spellbound.
Newton said: “It’s been far too long since I’ve put new music out as I’ve been writing and recording. It feels right to be back. When my second record came out everything was full-on urban but Ed Sheeran has brought things back around again.” Newtown is all for TV talent shows if they discover truly talented artists: “Loads of people speak out about how it’s so damaging to music. But having this career is so hard, and if they make it they should be considered as a valid artist.”Newton Faulkner - Dream Catch Me
