The Red Bull Music Academy’s 2012
edition will be held in New York City in October and November, Clubmix can reveal.
A special Irish party
headlined by deep house don Kerri Chandler
to mark this year’s Academy will take place in Belfast on March 2 at The Stiff Kitten and The Academy (Green Room) in Dublin on March 3.
Red Bull will also run a series of introductory workshops in the cities earlier those days to give an insight on what the Academy is all about. These will take place in The Harlem Cafe, Belfast, and No 5 Spencer Dock, Dublin.
Appearing with Kerri Chandler at the workshops will be legendary hip-hop producer Just Blaze
, aka Justin Smith. The CEO of Fort Knocks Entertainment has worked with Jay-Z, Eminem, Busta Rhymes, DMX, Snoop Dogg and Talib Kweli to name but a few. Each workshop will be followed by a Q&A session where participants are invited to grill both Kerri and Justin. The Academy has previously travelled around the world, to stops including Berlin, Toronto, London, Madrid, Melbourne and Cape Town.
Irish representatives have included Spin 103.8 DJ Arveene
. New York has been immortalised in countless songs, and is the birthplace of many of the world’s most beloved musical movements.
With its heady blend of DIY enclaves in the boroughs, disco throwdowns in art galleries, and high-stakes hip-hop boardrooms, the Big Apple still holds an intoxicating sense of possibility. The Academy 2012 invites inspired musicians to be a part of the journey, which will see five weeks’ worth of workshops, concerts, club nights, and all-round musical extravaganzas in this unique city.
Interested producers, musicians, DJs, instrumentalists, and vocalists can download an application form from the Academy website
now and send it off with a selection of their tunes by April 2, 2012.
