search and discovery features are set to receive an overhaul today with the promise that it will dramatically change the service. Pankaj Gupta, who runs the company's Personalization and Recommender Systems tweeted
his congratulations yesterday, telling the team responsible to “enjoy the enormity of your impact few understand today.”
The company has highlighted the Discovery
aspect of Twitter before with Twitter CEO Dick Costolo commenting that it allows users to uncover the “pulse of the world”. This tab is supposed to take information from a user’s following list and deliver updates based on this. Unfortunately it is prone to errors in judgement and the search on site is a little on the unreliable side. However, all could change after this update which will begin to roll out today.
Twitter is slowly making changes to make the service more personable. Users can now see personalised trending topics based on their interests rather than millions of teenagers tweeting incessantly about the same thing, although those topics do still appear from time to time. We will be staying glued to the social networking site for now to see what changes appear and how they live up to the image conjured up by Gupta’s tweet.
